3D Deer Contest at Steeve Good's Blog

Steeve Good opened a 3D Deer Contest on his blog http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2013/08/3d-deer-cutting-demonstration-plus.html.

Along with the rules of the contest he provides instructions and video on how to cut a 3D Deer without a pattern.

Today I cut 2 little deers, the height of the tallest is about 1 1/2". A penny is for a reference.

Candleholder

I missed my scroll saw so much. We moved and now I have a nice space in the garage that I can call a workshop and can enjoy my scroll saw. I almost finished cutting all pieces for a candle holder today, only one piece left. Hopefully, I'll do it tomorrow.

Compound Scroll Sawing in 1/12th scale. Dollhouse Miniature Figurines. Part 3

I finished my little figurines in 1/12th scale that I cut with the scroll saw.
Here they are:

New project - Lidded Work Basket

As I have already told you, I have an amazing book with beautiful patterns that is called The Art of the Scroll Saw. I saw some of the patters in different sources and each time with different authors' names, it makes me confused a little bit, but anyway today I went through the book again and picked up one that is called Lidded Work basket. I must tell you a secret: being inpatient I made this basket already in 1/12th scale. I wanted to make a post about it, but then decided to make another one but in real size to give the impression of sizes. When I am done with this basket, I will post an image of all of them.

I bought a nice piece of cherry, 1/4th thick, cut it and finished with Lacquer Sanding Sealer and Clear Wood Finish Semi-Gloss (on the picture you can see Satin, but at the time I decided to take a picture of it, Semi-Gloss was finished and tossed).

I put 3 coats and sanded in-between. Just Loved the result: smooth touch, :)))

Then I covered the pieces with blue tape (I don't like to glue the patterns on the wood) and attached the patterns on the top.

Tomorrow - sawing!!!

Compound Scroll Sawing in 1/12th scale. Part 2

So, I prepared patterns to be cut off. I used Cherry 3/4" thick.
First I cut the side with a swan. I used so-called "trapping" method.
This is how front side looks like

This is a back side


Then I cut another side of the pattern. Here you can see front side and back side:



The swan was born!





Next I cut the shell looking holder. I think in miniatures world it can be used as a cards' holder or newspapers' holder, or just for decoration on a table.


Last but not least, a snail was born. I don't care too much about this figurine but it was nice to practice.

Compound Scroll Sawing in 1/12th scale. Part 1

I decided to try compound scroll sawing and of course the first thought was if I can adapt patterns to 1/12th scale.
I found the book "Compound Scroll Saw Creations" by Diana Thompson and picked up some patterns from it


I prepared the material to be cut


and... tomorrow I will work on it, it is too late right now.

Finally I have had the opportunity to put some of the shelves together. Today I can show you the corner fretwork shelves in 1/12th scale.

BACK TO WORK

I missed my scroll saw a lot. This is what I cut so far during last weekend. I worked on the cutting the shelves in 1/12th scale. These pieces were cut from Cherry. I like to work with cherry when it comes to the scroll saw.

These pieces for the corner shelves were cut from mahogany:

...and these are pieces that have been prepared for cutting, but it is different story...

PIECES FOR THE FIRST FLOOR

I finished cutting some pieces for the first floor. Four piece to go.

UPDATE

I haven't posted for a while but it doesn't mean I haven't done anything. I sanded the pieces and stained them. I cut almost all pieces for the first floor.

THE BASE IS ALMOST FINISHED...

Today I cut 5 pieces more for the clock. Tomorrow I am going to cut 45 degrees out on the edges of some of them to fit the base piece and to sand the pieces. I haven't decided yet what color I want this clock to be, that's why no staining yet. But this is how the base will look like:

I have first and only one follower! Birgit, thank you for your interest in my new project.
My new project is a clock. I bought the pattern of that beautiful clock 3 years ago when I had no intentions to work with wood at all. I simply was in love with the clock on the picture. Three years later when I went through my stash again (I do it constantly) I thought: hmmm, why not to try? Today I cut 2 more pieces for my new clock. I broke 2 blades already. Practice, practice, practice.

I also cut the base using a table saw and prepared other pieces for fretwork:

Finally I started posting here. Today I got my new DeWalt scroll saw and worked already on it and I am very happy!

I started a new project and I am not planning to tell you yet what it is till I finish it. Here are 2 pieces I cut today:

I also made some simple puzzles for my daughter that made her busy for a while:





Don't be very strict with me, I have just started and this is my first serious project.
I made one little simple shelf a month ago using my old scroll saw and was not happy with the quality, but I am still posting an image of it:

I will put it together tomorrow.
